The new Recharge is what was previously known as the T8 Twin Engine, but even better. The Recharge features the T6’s double blown combustion engine and adds a lithium-ion powered electric motor that runs the car’s rear wheels. With the gas engine driving the front wheels and the motor driving the rear ones, this hybrid set up creates a standard AWD system in the Recharge. This combination of the T6 and the electric motor generates a whopping 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.
The engine is powerful and efficient, managing 55 MPG. When the Recharge is driven as a regular hybrid without the electric-only miles, gets a combined 27 MPG rating. The battery is quick to replenish, and depending on the voltage of your source, it can take between 2.5 and six hours. On electric power only, the XC90 can go up to 18 miles on a full charge. The electric motor is also pretty powerful, producing 87 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque.
