Motor Oil Myths: Getting to the Truth of the Matter

The automotive technicians here at Gengras Volvo talk with our customers every day. During those conversations, they hear common myths about motor oil and its use. Let's address a couple of those myths.

The first myth is that you should have your oil changed every 3000 miles. It actually depends on the make and model of your vehicle. Some vehicles should be changed every 3000 miles. However, some only need to have the oil changed every 5000 or 7000 miles. It's best to check your owner's manual or talk with the auto techs in the service department.

The second myth is that you don't need to change the oil filter every time you get the oil changed. That's totally false. The contaminants trapped in the old oil filter will release into the new oil, potentially causing damage to your engine. If you have any questions about oil changes, talk with the service department today.
